Seattle, WA, July 13, 2018 – Ahlquist Media Lab announced today that its first cinematic virtual reality experience, “The Book of True Feelings” has been accepted as an official selection of the Seattle Transmedia & Independent Film Festival. The experience will be available to the public in the festival’s Transmedia Gallery on July 26-29.

The experience, directed by Jason Ahlquist and Starring Phillip Wheeler (Western Sol, The Junkie)  is a simple and fascinating experiment with how performance context cues in virtual reality can shape experienced emotion. Ahlquist describes the work as an inverse of the Kuleshov experiment that discovered essential principles in context cues to convey meaning and emotion in film editing.

“Making this VR experience was an big step in my discovery process about how this exciting new media works on a human level,” Ahlquist said. “This is an exciting time for virtual reality producers. The technology has matured to a level where the art can truly be discovered. It feels like the early days of cinema, where every problem you tackle is an opportunity to truly innovate.”

Jason Ahlquist is an filmmaker, artist and journalist who founded Ahlquist Media Lab, a transmedia production company that produces documentary film and virtual reality experiences to explore the impact of change on society.
